5 questions to ask when buying technology for your church

See if this feels familiar; A small group of people (or maybe just one person) just decided to purchase new technology they believe your church needs. Now, you are being asked to help implement the technology and make it successful. I know this sounds crazy but it happens more often than you think.

If technology buying decisions are made poorly, it can lead to all sorts of dysfunction. This is why churches often get disillusioned by church software companies. Sometimes it is the fault of the provider but more often, the dysfunction is the result of a bad process and wrong assumptions.

The first assumption is cheaper is better. Continue Reading…

3 ways technology helps churches improve core processes

If you follow my blog, I think it’s safe to say you get that technology has a place in the church. Technology distributes and accelerates our efforts to build community and foster deeper ministry engagement. I love it when I see churches using Church Community Builder to move members through processes which lead to greater connection, commitment and sense of belonging. It’s funny to me how those same churches don’t act concerned about money but I covered that topic already.

When churches take the time to understand the systems and processes that define how they do church, the church is empowered to use technology to maintain, manage, improve, and measure the effectiveness in core areas of ministry. Below are three examples of some of the core processes which can be improved with the right technology: Continue Reading…

Get out of the office!

I just returned from a week in Florida at the Exponential Conference. I love this event! I get to connect with amazing people who serve the local church and in the churches we serve at Church Community Builder. There was one evening that stands out: I was relaxing with my team by the pool and we met a group of church planters who partnered with us a year ago. They shared incredible stories about their ministry in Los Angeles and how our systems are helping them make an impact in the city. I can tell you that we were all highly encouraged and motivated that night!

For me, this was a reminder about how wonderful it is to get out of the office. I need to do it more! Avoiding the office completely is a bit extreme, I’ll give you that. But, if I’m not careful, I find myself spending too much time in my office and not enough time in the “community” we serve at Church Community Builder. Continue Reading…

Ed Stetzer on technology and faith

faith and technology

Ed Stetzer is a guy I pay attention to. His leadership and insight has brought a lot of value to both paid and unpaid church leaders. He recently posted about the positive connection between technology and faith. Of course, I had to check that one out!

Ed listed twelve but three really stood out to me: Continue Reading…

Technology helps leaders overcome the hurdles of church planting

hurdles to church planting

As the Exponential Conference kicks off, I can’t help but think about how technology helps leaders overcome the hurdles of church planting. In fact, I had a great conversation with a few Stadia church planters about that very subject last night and I have to say it was really exciting to hear. I believe local communities of believers is exactly how God intended to spread the gospel. Church planting helps ensure new communities are emerging to reach even more people. Isn’t that what it’s all about, anyway?

I’ve been privileged to work with a number of church planters as well as leaders in that space. Church Community Builder works hard to make sure we can offer something beneficial to even the smallest of churches. We believe that if you can begin with great systems, you’ll not only grow faster but will also be able to sustain that growth over time.

Some of the biggest hurdles to church planting are: Continue Reading…

6 guest posts worth revisiting

It was decided several months ago that it made sense to expand the number of voices featured on this blog. The work we do at Church Community Builder has allowed us to meet and develop relationships with lot of smart people who are impacting the local church in amazing ways. As we seek to impact church leaders by guiding them to greater effectiveness, we proactively seek innovative thought leaders who can resource us and our church family in a variety of ways.

I’m working with some of these high-capacity church leaders to develop some really helpful posts in the coming months. However, there have already been some great ones posted here over the last several months. In case you missed them, here are some of my favorite to date:

  1. The Value of a Good Search (William Vanderbloemen)
  2. 6 things I learned form Kelly Hartnett and Kem Meyer about church communications (Lauren Hunter)
  3. 5 trends in church facility development and life cycle management (Tim Cool)
  4. Building community the green way (Sarah Jackson, CCB)
  5. What makes CCB different (Sean Buchanan, CCB)
  6. Dave Bair on how Northland utilized CCB to achieve maximum results (Dave Bair, CCB)

As you can see, there is a mix of internal CCB voices along with external, powerhouse leaders in the church space. I’m proud of who we have on our team, and I’m grateful for the partnerships we have developed with a growing number of thought leaders as we work together to impact the Kingdom.
